The creation of a new district began on August 1, 2014, in the presence of then-Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and then-Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat. Palghar is the state's 36th district. Palghar District has a population of 29,95,428 people. Jawhar, Mokhada, Talasari, Vasai, Vikramgad, Palghar, Dahanu, and Wada are the district's eight talukas.
